The Marauders learned Sunday that pitcher Nathan Adcock, selected away from the Pirates by the Royals with the fifth pick of the 2010 Rule 5 Draft, has been named to Kansas City's 2011 Opening Day roster. Adcock is one of 13 pitchers the team is expected to carry to Kauffman Stadium when it opens the regular season against the Los Angeles Angels. As a Rule 5 Draft selection, Adcock must remain on the team's Major League roster for the entire season or be offered back to the Pirates.
The Kentuckian righty was outstanding in Spring Training, not allowing a run in his first nine innings pitcher. Overall he gave up just five runs all spring, good enough for a 3.46 ERA. His 13 innings were sixth most on the team and more than top prospects Aaron Crow and Jake Jeffress.
Adcock started 26 games for the Marauders in 2010, second most on the team. His 11 wins and 113 strikeouts both led the club. He was acquired during the 2009 season in a trade from the Mariners in exchange for Ian Snell and Jack Wilson.
The Marauders return to action at McKechnie Field Friday, April 8th for their home opener of the 2011 season against the Charlotte Stone Crabs. The season begins on the road April 7th at Charlotte. For more information visit BradentonMaraduers.com or call 941-747-3031.
